What equipment does a shop need to start ADAS calibration?
Short answer: A scan tool with calibration software for your target vehicles, a calibration frame and the targets those vehicles need, measuring tools, a level space, and access to alignment, plus service information.
ADAS work combines software and physical setup. The scan tool must support calibration routines for the makes you service, and some features are sold as software upgrades. The calibration frame holds targets at the correct height, and different makers need different targets, so kits are often built up over time.
Measuring tools set distances and centerlines, and some vehicles need inclinometers or other specific aids. Alignment matters because sensors aim along the thrust line, so having an aligner or a sublet partner is important.
A dedicated area with a level floor, consistent lighting and clear space ahead of the vehicle makes results repeatable. Training is essential. Start with the makes and repairs you see most, then add targets as demand grows. Handle heavy frames carefully and keep the area clear of trip hazards.
